Incorporating Sports Science into BAC’s Training Program
At Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre (BAC), we believe that building elite swimmers requires more than just time in the pool. To ensure our athletes are prepared physically, mentally, and emotionally, we have integrated a robust sports science program into our core training ecosystem.
BAC is proud to be one of the first swimming academies in India to adopt a truly holistic, evidence-based approach to athlete development. Our sports science program enhances traditional swim coaching with expert-led support across four core areas: strength and conditioning, sports psychology, physiotherapy, and nutrition. These components work in tandem to improve every aspect of a swimmer’s performance and well being.

Objectives
At BAC, our mission has always been to produce not just competitive swimmers—but well-rounded, resilient athletes. In line with this vision, we have introduced a Sports Science program to:
- Enhance physical performance through structured, evidence-based practices

- Integrate mental, physical, and nutritional care into daily training
- Foster self-awareness, discipline, and scientific training habits in young swimmers

Benefits of the Program
This integrated approach brings numerous benefits. Swimmers show marked improvement in physical performance, consistency, and technical precision. Recovery times improve, injuries reduce, and athletes become more attuned to their bodies. Mental training strengthens their confidence, motivation, and ability to handle pressure. The sports science integration is designed as a multi-pronged intervention, personalized to every athlete’s needs. Our program is anchored in a robust Monitoring Evaluation Learning framework developed by Forion Analytics, using:
- Pre- and post-program assessments in physical, psychological, and behavioral indicators
- Custom-designed survey tools, observation checklists, and wellness dashboards
- Monthly reports for internal tracking and transparent impact documentation

- Designed the pilot framework and Theory of Change
- Developed impact assessment systems and data collection tools
- Conducts real-time monitoring, performance analysis, and post-program evaluations of swimmers to monitor progress
